The Canadian Grief Alliance (CGA), is a group of leading grief specialists and more than 150 national and provincial organizations that are encouraging the Government to adopt a proposal to address national gaps in grief services that are leaving hurting Canadians unsupported in their grief.
In 2024, the GCA published the results from their national survey. A newsletter from June 2024 provides a preview of the results.
In June 2025, the CGA published The Next Steps Action Plan which provides five recommendations for improving grief support in Canada. They are:
Improve grief literacy through targeted public awareness campaigns and community engagement.
Adopt a public health approach to provide accessible and tailored grief services, particularly for underserved populations, that includes approaches and responses to grief developed by and for Indigenous, Black and racialized communities.
Enhance support for grief professionals and volunteers through expanded training and education.
Foster a deeper understanding of grief in Canada through national data collection and dedicated research funding.
Establish a Canadian Centre for Grief to coordinate national policy, program support, and emergency responses.

The Loss Lab – Home (kingslosslab.ca)
The Grief and Loss Research Lab (aka The Loss Lab) is a scholarly interdisciplinary research hub dedicated to critical analyses of the myriad effects of loss throughout the life span. The fundamental goal of the Loss Lab is the pursuit of greater death literacy and grief literacy. As Thanatology is a recent field of study within academia, there is a highly relevant need for well-grounded research as well as integration of theory and praxis for those working in such professions as nursing, palliative care, first responders, policing, education, health and wellness professionals, and funeral care providers.
The Center for Advancement of Bereavement Care
The Center for the Advancement of Bereavement Care provides science-based support, education, and training focused on understanding and coping with grief and bereavement. We are building a global network of grief-informed healthcare providers, community members, and resources.
